MID-1980s
Mike Gomm joined Elfin, which in 1986, had been incorporated. With a brother who had cerebral palsy, he knew first-hand about the difficulties faced by disabled people; he met Steve through a mutual contact and became interested in what Elfin was doing. Mike would help out and became quite involved, joining the company as a salesman and a liaison with customers.
Elfin continued to grow, took on more staff and moved to larger premises. Research and development continued to be the backbone of the company as the technology evolved and products became more refined and integrated.
Mike Gomm established contacts with key people within the disability sector, presenting and promoting Elfin Systems and the product range across the UK and Europe. Alongside this, he worked with many private individuals helping them to realise their potential, many of whom had previously been assumed to have low-level cognitive function and ability. Together, Steve and Mike broke new ground and helped to move the entire industry forward.
